THE Boambee Bombers overcame the Coffs Coast Tigers 2-1 to shoot to the top of the Coastal Premier League after two rounds.

The Tigers set the early pace and opened the scoring after 20 minutes, pushing last year’s North Zone champions on to the back foot.

The Bombers bounced back ten minutes later with an unstoppable penalty which gave Tigers goalkeeper and captain, Luke Kliendienst, no chance.

The Tigers had several chances to regain the lead but young shot stopper Kyle Wood who graduated from Boambee under 17’s was in top form parrying away the Tiger’s attacks.

Although Boambee are the only team to take maximum points from their opening two fixtures, Captain Mitchell Brewster wasn’t getting carried away and is focused on improving the team’s performance.

“Saturday was a tough and scrappy game where I feel we played nowhere near our full potential.

“A culmination of silly errors and turning over possession cheaply put us under pressure but we were lucky enough to get away with it through some desperation in defence and quality saves from our keeper, Kyle Wood.

“We have a lot of work to do to get to where we need to be, but I think we can credit ourselves on grinding out a result to get 3 points when we weren’t at our best,” said Mitchell.

Boambee travel to Kempsey on Saturday to face the Saints and the Tigers take the trip to Port Macquarie to play the Port Saints.
