Boaters should not attempt to cross Coffs Harbour entrance at low tide

TRANSPORT for NSW is advising that boaters should not attempt to cross the entrance to the Coffs Harbour Regional Boat Ramp at low tide.

“There has been a major build-up of sand at the entrance because of the recent east coast low so boaters should not attempt to cross the entrance at low tide as the build-up of sand has made the entrance impassable,” says Darren Woods, Director of the Maritime Infrastructure Delivery Office (MIDO).

To warn users of the boat ramp, Transport for NSW is also installing signage and aids to navigation at Coffs Harbour.

“This is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure we keep the boat ramp open and maintain a safe, navigable entrance to Coffs Harbour,” said Darren Woods.

“Once this floating cutter suction dredge starts operating, we urge all users of the boat ramp and anyone on the water in the vicinity of the boat ramp to always be mindful of where the vessel is – given it weighs just over eight tonnes and is six metres long and just over four metres wide.”
