BOAMBEE Eagles overcame the Woolgoolga Wildcats in a nine goal thriller at Ayrshire Park last Saturday to win 6-3.

Prolific striker Kylie McDonald netted four times to keep the Eagles flying high at the top of the women’s first division alongside the Urunga Raiders.

Chloe Wighton bagged a brace and Lily Wilson completed the scoring for the Wildcats in an entertaining game of attacking football.

Eagles coach Neil Witherdin praised both teams.

“After a very good game the previous week with Urunga which saw the Eagles get their first win against Urunga for some time, the Eagles were expecting to carry on where they left off,” he said.

“What they forgot to consider was the tremendous determination and spirit of the Wildcats all over the park, what we ended up with was a free flowing game with a lot of emphasis on attack resulting in the scoreboard attendant being one of the busiest people there.

“For the Eagles four goals to Kylie McDonald, one to Krista Paunovic, and an own goal by Woopi was enough for the Eagles to secure the win,” said Neil.

Woolgoolga coach and president Peter Knott summed up the contest.

“The game is always a good contest between us and Boambee, unfortunately sometimes the scoreboard doesn’t reflect how close our games are and yesterday we had two lapses in concentration which cost us two goals and that’s the way football is and you can’t afford that against a side like Boambee.

“Going forward we now know what we need to work on more at training,” said Peter.

Boambee club president Fiona Clancy spoke to News Of The Area about the spirit of the game in the women’s first division.

“I think you would say the game was played with great sportsmanship, Eagles played the ball around the field connecting with each other well, however the Wildcats never gave up and persisted until the end,“ said Fiona.

The Eagles host the Maclean Bobcats on Saturday 22 May at Ayrshire Park at 3pm and the Wildcats host the Urunga Raiders at Woolgoolga playing fields at 3pm.
