The  Karuah Bluegrass Music Festival is in its seventh year on the 1st weekend in May at the beautiful Longworth Park.

FRIDAY 1 May will kick off the beginning of the 7th Annual Lost Highway Karuah Bluegrass Festival with an open mic section for people arriving early at 1pm at Karuah BP Service Station, who will also provide a fantastic range of cooked breakfasts throughout the festival from Friday 1 May to Sunday 3 May.

The Lost Highway Bluegrass Festival will play host to many award winning artists, bands and acts from as far as Western Australia to New Zealand, such as ‘The Eastern’, ‘Sisken River’ The ‘FruiTTrees’, and local artists ‘The Bob Corbett Band’ and ‘Gleny Rae Virus and her Karuah Playboys’.

Karuah Commerce member and festival organiser Sharon Wedd told Myall Coast News, “They are expecting as many as around three or four hundred people to attend  the weekend this year.”

“Karuah’s annual Festival has built up a reputation as an ideal place for bluegrass players and enthusiasts to gather in idyllic settings on the Karuah River in the picturesque bypassed town.”

With a mission intended of creating a festival where musicians, residents and music lovers can gather to enjoy acoustic music, share ideas, learn music skills and enjoy a weekend of performances with beautiful surroundings.

“Karuah RSL will provide free entertainment on the Friday evening with headline act ‘Bluegrass Parkway’ from Western Australia, and ‘Appalachian Heaven String Band,” said Ms Wedd.

Pickers Paradise, which was introduced last year, will be located in Community Hall provides a nice intimate place throughout the day and evening with seating for around 120 people, which will also be doing hot cooked meals on Friday and Saturday nights.

Ms Wedd said, “Saturday there will be musicians in the main street at various local businesses, followed by a ticketed event Saturday night at the RSL.”

Sunday there will be more music and entertainment at Longworth Park on the Karuah River waterfront, which will also be a ticketed event, a weekend ticket will allow you entry to all events over the weekend.

There will also be an over 18’s area in the shade and Soulfire Circus will be performing for the kids which will be free beyond cover charge.

Organisers are pleased to announce that  the local Service Station is kicking-off the festival at 1pm on Friday with an open mic session for those budding musos wanting to showcase their music.

There is entertainment at the Karuah RSL Club and the wonderful Picker Paradise where you are up close and personal with the artists.

Live with the locals once again will be in the main street heaps of music both Saturday and Sunday, Local cafe’s will also be host to live music.

Then it’s down to the park for 2 full days of concerts with Sunday being family day, with a circus workshop for the kids to attend.

Artists from Western Australia, New Zealand and Melbourne are making their way to Karuah for the biggest bluegrass festival on the coast.
