Snapper is not all that is out there at the moment, with schools of taylor and bonito being reported in the area, as well.
Brad Horn of Pacific Blue Charters told News Of The Area, “There have been plenty of good sized snapper and trag out there over the peak holiday season, and there are plenty of fish still out there.
“We are now gearing up for the marlin season and that’s really exciting fishing.”
For those that don’t have a boat there is good shore fishing to be had around Port Stephens as well.
The break wall at Nelson Bay is always popular as is the jetty at Little Beach.
There is bream, flathead and whiting all ready to be caught inside the bay.
Recreational fishers do need a fishing licence to fish in NSW unless they are participating in a fishing charter.
There are several charter operators in the Bay offering inshore and offshore fishing experiences.
“If you aren’t a regular fisher taking a charter can be a great way of being at the right place to bag a catch.”
“Heath Power (peg leg) , is one happy customer on Dr Hook, in fact he was so happy with the first charter he came back for a second one week apart, and is already booked to go out again, it’s no wonder he was happy catching this thumper of a snapper,” he said.
