THE final week of May is an action packed one at the North Coast Regional Botanic Garden.

From Saturday 22 to Sunday 30 May, a series of events will be held at the Garden, celebrating the Botanic Heritage of Coffs Harbour.

The events are funded by the Maritime Museum of Australia and the Friends of the North Coast Regional Botanic Garden.

On Saturday 22 May, the week of events begins with a Garlambirla Plant Walk led by Uncle Mark Flanders from 9.30-10.30am.

The walk is followed at 10.30-11.30am by a Gumbaynggirr Cultural Artefacts Talk from Glen Brown of the Yarrawarra Cultural Centre in the Display Room near the entrance to the Gardens.

From Monday 24-Friday 28 May inclusive, is a daily school education program on Botany. Organised by the Garden’s Education Officer Sue McIntyre, these are tailored to align with the curriculum and the work of all Botanists, especially from our region.

Children from local primary schools will go on guided tours of the newly constructed and planted Botanist Walk.

At 6:30pm on Friday 28 May, the Garden will be host to a Spotlight Nocturnal Walk, arranged by the National Parks and Wildlife Service and Rick Ackland.

On Saturday 29 May, is the official opening of Botanists Walk at the start of the walk.

Local dignitaries will be present, and the event starts at 10.00am.

Later that day at The Botanists Walk, crowds will take a quick look at the Botanists selected for the Walk from 12.30-1.30pm.

At 2.00pm, the Botanic Endeavour event will cover Banks and Solander’s journey on the Endeavour.

Finishing the week on Sunday 30 May, from 9.00am-2,00pm, is a Community Party in the Gardens celebrating the Annual Botanic Gardens of Australia and New Zealand (BGANZ).

Plants from the Nursery run by Friends of Gardens will be sold for a reasonable price to support the gardeners of the Coffs Harbour region.

Other stalls will showcase local horticultural organisations and businesses and in the Display Room will be related free workshops and talks.
