DEPRESSION does not discriminate, as we were again reminded by the news earlier this month, that Rugby League Star Greg Inglis had checked himself into a mental health facility.

Statistics from beyondblue estimate that in any one year, more than a million Australians will suffer from depression.

Tea Gardens local Carol Nelson knows only too well how devastating the illness can be after her son-in-law committed suicide last year at just 39 years of age.

He left behind his wife and four young children.

But his passing has led to Carol taking action, becoming involved with beyondblue to raise awareness and funding.

Recently Carol and husband John organised a barbecue at the Myall Quays Shopping Centre.

“I would like to say a big thankyou to Coles for their donation and my amazing helpers on the day,” Carol told News Of The Area.

“John and I would also like to thank Kris and John Mobbs, Lynette and Geoff Thorn, Colin Haigh and Fiona Mobbs for making yummy blue cakes to sell.”

“It was a great day raising $651.05 and a huge thanks goes to the locals who supported us,” Carole said.
