The abandoned, crashed caravan.

BELLINGEN residents used Facebook last Tuesday night, June 1, to alert each other for safety as a man allegedly committed theft and dangerous driving on the town’s streets.

While many were shaken up by the events, the Bellingen community rallied for each other signalling the danger, as it unfolded, on the town’s Facebook page.

Bellingen resident Kate* told News Of The Area she posted on FB, “At approx 7:37pm a guy has stolen a caravan at the Bellingen Showground claiming it was his ex’s (which it wasn’t).

“He was ranting and raving angrily saying it was his right to take it.

“It wasn’t hooked up properly to his ute and it swung off as he’s been driving.

“It is now wedged into the rock garden bed in between the Medical Centre and the Providore.

“The guy continued to drive up Wheatley St, purposely ramming into parked cars.

“Then has headed into Sunset Ridge, into Kenny Close, hitting more cars along the way and has abandoned the ute.

“He’s run off into the nearby dam near Planet Lighting.

“The gentleman who owns the caravan has been notified and is waiting for police before trying to remove it.”

According to locals, some nine cars were damaged in total.

“We were the car that was just behind him.

“I know this as we have a doorbell cam.”

Rebecca* told News Of The Area, “There were pieces of the ute at the top of our street too.

“The car sounded like a jet plane as it went down our street as it had blown a tyre and parts of the car were scraping on the road.

“I guess there is always a reason for these things happening and it’s usually personal.”

On Monday (June 7) Bellingen Police told News Of The Area, “We’re still investigating”.
