THE Bellingen Community Art Council’s (BCAC) Spring Members’ Exhibition at the Nexus Community Gallery from 11 September – 7 October will showcase a diversity of work in medium, style and subject matter.

These Members’ Exhibitions are a celebration of the considerable talents and creative diversity within the Bellingen Shire and neighbouring regions.

“The exhibitions and openings are a joyful time of networking and social celebration of the creative talent within the region,” Jenny Hicks, President of the BCAC Committee, Lynn Tizzard, Nexus Gallery Coordinator, and Linda Ravlich Nexus Gallery Artist Liaison Officer, told News Of The Area as they shared details of the gallery’s shows and purpose.

“The Spring Members’ Exhibition opening on Sunday 11 September at the Nexus Community Gallery, is more than a celebration this time.

“It is also a reflection upon all our blessings that Nexus remains intact after another flooding in March – the flood level rising to just under a metre inside the gallery.”

The BCAC, a not-for-profit volunteer organisation, was founded by Louise Rawson-Harris in the mid 1990s.

Among other activities of the BCAC, Louise and the committee organised members’ art exhibitions which were held at various venues in Bellingen.

It was in 2005 that premises were secured at the Old Butter Factory which gave BCAC members a gallery of their own.

“Run by the community for the community, its aim has always been to support regional artists and promote the appreciation of the arts throughout the mid north coast of NSW,” said the team.

Receiving no grants or Council funding the BCAC relies upon memberships, exhibition fees, art sales, raffles and donations to enable it to keep the Nexus Community Gallery running and also to auspice seven other community projects: Sunday Bites; Bellingen Muse; Mixed Up Arts; Bellingen Shire Arts Week; Women’s Walk Project; Festival Flamenco; and the very newly formed Bellingen Theatre Troupe.

BCAC Members’ Exhibitions are held four times a year to coincide with each new season and school holidays.

Members can also book the Nexus Main or Studio Gallery for their own exhibition with bookings already being taken for 2024.

Exhibitions run for four weeks, enabling a wide range of artists to be showcased throughout the year.

Membership forms can be found on the BCAC website or picked up from Nexus.
