Christine Walton of the Tomaree Breast Cancer Support Group told News Of The Area, “The breakfast is our major fundraiser and it will be held on Wednesday 17 October 2018 at the Nelson Bay Bowling Club.”

She believes that those who will attend will be inspired by guest speaker Sister Diana Santleben the Founder of Zara’s House in Newcastle.

Zara’s House is designed to be a safe place for newly arrived refugee women and their families, a place where they can connect with the community.

The House offers a language and literacy program for the refugee women and a child care service for their children.
The motto for Zara’s House is ‘in it together’.

The tickets go on sale 10 September at the Nelson Bay Bowling Club you can purchase the tickets at the club or by phone on 4981 1272.

This is the 16th Breakfast which the Tomaree Breast Cancer Support Group has held which usually attracts over 300 women and men.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the main aim of the breakfast is to enforce that awareness.

On average 50 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia every day.

Women over the age of 50 are encouraged to undergo regular mammogram screenings for the early detection of breast cancer.

According to the Breast Cancer Network Australia in 2018, an estimated 18,087 women and 148 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
