The ‘Shoe Box Project’ is part of Operation Christmas Child with the charity Samaritans Purse, which partners with local churches to provide youngsters in developing nations with a gift for Christmas.

At the recent SKILLS day at the Baptist Church in Tea Gardens, members were joined by residents from the Peter Sinclair Aged Care Facility and Estia Health in Tea Gardens, their mission to fill the boxes ready for delivery.

44 boxes were filled with something from six categories.

Something to wear, something to play with, something for school, something to love, something for personal hygiene and something special.

“We have also enclosed letters and drawings from our church family’s children as well as this group photo so they can see what seniors have done for them as their shoe boxes were packed with love,” Ruth Calcutt said.

And of course each shoebox was turned into a colourful treasure trove on the outside as well.

All that’s left now is for the 44 boxes to be delivered to a child living in crisis whether it be from civil war or a weather catastrophe.
