The ‘Big Cake Bake’ has become one of the major fundraisers on the Red Cross Calendar and a very popular day with the Tea Gardens locals, who get to enjoy some home baking while donating to a very worthy cause.

While the members create yummy cakes and slices to delight our sweet cravings, they are also open to the community helping out.

“Donations of cakes, biscuits, scones or slices are always very appreciated,” Helen Janes told News Of The Area.

“We will also raffle a meat voucher from Jeff’s Quality Meats,” Helen said.

“All proceeds from the raffle will be going to the Red Cross appeal to raise funds to help the plight of people affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami which hit the Indonesian Island of Sulawesi.”

The death toll from the double disaster has now reached over 2,000 but it’s possible that 5,000 people are still buried under the rumble of crumbled buildings.

80,000 people have been left homeless.

Our local Red Cross Ladies will be set up from early morning on Saturday 20 October at the Myall Quays Shopping Centre, the ‘Big Cake Bake’ coinciding with the monthly Market Day.
