The reunion kicked off on the Saturday with around 250 people catching up over a cuppa in the Hawks Nest Community Hall. “Old pictures and memorabilia were on display,” Anne-Marie Barry said. Local historians and authors Ian Dunlop, Jan Winn and Carolyn Burrows were also on hand and the Tea Gardens Lions Club provided a barbecue lunch. Saturday night and 100 revellers sat down to a spit roast dinner at the Tea Gardens Country Club, their numbers swelling to around 200 for an evening of fun and laughter. Sunday morning and members of the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Club cooked up a big breakfast before the final farewells. “Everyone had a great time,” Anne-Marie said. “I thank everyone for attending what turned out to be a very special weekend.” Anyone wishing to keep in touch can go to the ‘Back to Tea Gardens Hawks Nest’ Facebook page. Another reunion could be on the cards in 2022. By Margie TIERNEY FRIENDS REUNITE: Neighbors Carolyn Burrows and Shirley Kirk. REUNION DINNER: Back to Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest weekend.
