FROM the outside, a passer-by can gaze at the stunning house owned by Mr Geoffrey Hamilton on the property at Fullerton Cove and see what resembles a shearing shed.

Recently listed in Domain’s Australia’s 10 Best Houses of 2016, on entering the home, a visitor immediately gets a sense of why this home has won so many awards in its short lifespan.

The architecturally designed home is essentially two symmetrical tin sheds linked by a corridor with verandas to enjoy the outdoors.

In an exclusive interview with Medowie News Of The Area, Mr Hamilton said, “It is a rare occurrence when an architect and a builder get on.”

And just as well, because the architect, Mr Hamilton’s son, Managing Director at SHAC Architects, Mr Justin Hamilton designed the house specifically to meet his father’s needs, right down to extending the back room for his collection of model tractors.

With bespoke ceiling panels made from recycled timber, personal nostalgia items such as the early 20^th century drenching gun, and a handmade wooden tractor panel displayed in a niche at the entrance show what thoughtfulness went in to the one-of-a-kind design.

Mr Hamilton is proud of the family involvement in the build saying the house had, “An input of three generations, my grand-daughter was responsible for the fittings, my daughter-in-law selected the lights, and my son was the architect who designed the house.”

Mr Hamilton is humble about his prize-winning home saying, “The only reason I’m thrilled is because my son designed it.”

“He fashioned it around my life.”

The house took just on 12 months to build by Peter Doody Constructions and was entirely hand built on site.

Mr Hamilton said, “Nothing arrived pre-made, not even the steel beams, everything was made in my shed.”
