Autumn Doubles Competition at Nelson Bay Croquet Club News Of The Area Port Stephens Sport by News Of The Area - Modern Media - March 17, 2021 Winners Liz Friend and Cheryl Lloyd with Club President Sandy Tawa. 24 MEMBERS turned-out for the intra-club handicap Autumn Doubles at the Nelson Bay Croquet Club on Sunday 7 March. Partners were randomly drawn and the 12 teams organised into four blocks of three teams. An initial round-robin saw the teams that won each block play-off in a semi-final and final. The second and third teams played-off in a Shield and Plate competition. The winners of the blocks were Liz Friend and Cheryl Lloyd (on hoop count back), David and Penny Wilson (unbeaten), Roz Slaughter and Rae Uptin (unbeaten) and Linda Butler and Sally Ingram (on hoop count back). In the semi-finals, Liz and Cheryl beat Linda and Sally 7-4 and David & Penny beat Roz and Rae 7-3. Liz and Cheryl went on to win the final 7-4 over David and Penny. The winners of the Shield competition were Trevor & Rae Black and the winners of the Plate competition were Faby Batho and Peter Gordon. A great first competition for new Club Captain Sandy Tawa.
