Australia’s premier motocross series set to come to Coffs Harbour

AUSTRALIA’S best motocross riders are set to race in Coffs Harbour next year.

Coffs Harbour will host a round of the 2022 Australian Penrite ProMX Championship; an eight-round series held across Australia.

Coffs Harbour Motorcycle Club will host Round 6 of the championship series on Sunday, 24 July.

The Australian Penrite ProMX Championship is the premier motocross championship in Australia, and has a long- standing reputation as one of the leading domestic championships in the world.

The championship series has acted as a successful development program for young Australian riders to land in international series, with a strong contingent of Australian riders currently competing in the MXGP and AMA Motocross series.

The Coffs Harbour event will feature a big day of racing at the Coffs Harbour Motocross track, featuring Australia’s best MX1, MX2, and MX3 riders battling it out in practice, qualifying and racing.

Coffs Harbour Motorcycle Club president Ben Blanchette explained to News Of The Area the big coup of hosting such a prestigious event.

“It’s big news for us and you don’t get better than this,” he said.

“We upgraded our facilities to meet the criteria and we were successful in our bid to host a round of the championship.

“This event will be televised for an audience of at least half a million viewers, and feature champions from Australia and world class riders from the US and Europe.

“This will put Coffs Harbour on the national map, and it’s like getting the Australian Rally Championship.

“It will be absolutely great for the local economy as a lot of people will travel from outside the area to spectate.

“And the local riders are ecstatic as they get the chance to try to qualify and race against Australia’s best.”

Blanchette said hosting the ProMX round was part of working with Council to promote Coffs Harbour as a tourist destination.

“We are working in conjunction with Coffs Harbour City Council to rejuvenate and revitalise the area and promote Coffs Harbour as a tourist destination with these world class facilities,” he said.

In addition to hosting a round of next year’s ProMX Championship, Coffs Harbour Motorcycle Club will be hosting its 13th annual Coffs Harbour Stadium MX event on Saturday, 15 January which is expected to attract over 550 riders.
