Plenty of fun is in store across the Myall Coast for this year’s Australia Day celebrations. On Monday, January 26, the entertainment will begin at 8am at Moria Parade Reserve on Hawks Nest riverfront.

The annual event put on by the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Lionesses will start with a breakfast barbecue followed by the announcement of a local junior and senior citizen.

There will then be plenty of games for the children before a fly past by the Williamtown RAAF.

Karuah RSL will again be putting on a day of festivities getting underway from about midday.

An amateur produce competition will be held on the day with competitors invited to bring along their best home produced goods.

Categories include baking, fruit and vegetables, cake decorating and flower arrangements.

Produce can be dropped off from 8:30am in the morning and there is a $1 fee to enter. An auction of the produce will be held at lunch time and all proceeds will go to the Karuah, North Arm Cove and Limeburners Creek fire stations.

An Aussie thong throwing competition will start at 2pm followed by fun bowls at 3pm, live music by Johnny John Noble from 4:30pm to 8:30pm.

After the entertainment at the RSL it will be time to find a spot to watch the 9pm fireworks.

The Bulahdelah Historical Society is running an Australian themed evening at the Bulahdelah Court House.

A barbeque will run from 6pm in the courtyard followed by the screening of two Australian documentaries – Red Cedar and Red Terror.

There will also be bush poetry and an address about what it means to be Australian.
