ANZAC Day is nearly here, and Port Stephens is set set and ready to host another year of moving Dawn Services and parades to commemorate this very special day.

Schools have already acknowledged Anzac Day early in heartfelt and respectful services across Port Stephens, as Anzac Day this year falls during the school holidays.

Warrant Officer Chris Whittington attended one such service in Medowie this year, and told News Of The Area, “The Catafalque Party and I are honoured to attend these services.”

“They are always so thoughtfully organised and well received.”

The Medowie sub-Branch of the RSL will be holding a Dawn Service and march on 25 April.

The march will commence at the Bull and Bush hotel car park at 5.45am, and finish at the Lions Memorial Park.

The service will be held at Lions Memorial Park, starting at 6am, and concluding around 7am.

Lions Park is at the corner of Medowie and Ferodale Roads, just opposite the Medowie Woolworths car park.

Neil Biggar, Secretary of Medowie RSL sub-Branch, told News Of The Area, “We are looking forward to a special service, with another great turn out hopefully this year.”

The Tilligerry Dawn Service will commence at 5:45 at the Tilligerry RSL Sports Club, with ‘Gunfire Breakfast’ to follow in the Club for a gold coin donation.

The Tilligerry Commemoration Service will commence with a march at 9:40am from the Avenue of the Allies in Tanilba Bay, over to the Tilligerry RSL Sports Club for a service at 10am.

Nelson Bay Dawn Service will begin with at Apex Park at 5:30am.

Following the service there will be a hot breakfast at Wests Nelson Bay Diggers.

Returned and uniform personnel free. Members of the public $5.00 At 10:40, at march will commence from Nelson Bay Bowling Club, moving down Stockton Street to Apex Park for a service at 10:50am.

Following, there will be a luncheon at Wests Nelson Bay Diggers starting at 12.00pm, with sub-branch members $15, uniform personnel free, visitors and Guests $30.

In a new venture this year, The Women’s Auxiliary and members from Nelson Bay will be fundraising to support the Invictus Games being held in Sydney during October, 2018.
