ANZAC Day will be commemorated in many different ways in 2021.

For some the Light Up The Dawn will be their way of showing respect for those who have served and continue to serve.

For others attending a local service at a cenotaph will be on the calendar.

Others still will look up and see the RAAF fly past and send our thoughts to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice be it in the air, on the ground, or at sea.

This year in Port Stephens we will be seeing a range of ANZAC Day activities for veterans and the community to participate in.

Nelson Bay will see a 10.30am Anzac Day service in Apex Park followed by a lunch at Wests Nelson Bay Diggers for invited guests while Medowie will hold a Dawn Service for members of the sub branch.

In Tanilba Bay a 5.45am Dawn Service will be held at Tilligerry RSL Sports Club war memorial followed by gunfire breakfast for gold coin donation.

This will be followed by a March at 9.30am from the southern gates of Avenue of the Allies, Tanilba Bay to the club for a 9.45am service.

Raymond Terrace RSL Sub-Branch will hold an ANZAC Day Dawn Service and ANZAC Day Main Service in ANZAC Park, Raymond Terrace; and an ANZAC Day Service at the “Knitting Circle” memorial on Newline Road, East Seaham; on Sunday 25 April.

“ParticIpants” will assemble by 05:45am for a Service which will run from 05:50am until 06:20am.

A “Gunfire Breakfast” will be held in the Raymond Terrace Bowling Club on completion of the Service, however numbers may be limited due to COVID-19 restrictions in place at the time.

The East Seaham “Knitting Circle” Memorial Service will be held at the “Knitting Circle” memorial, Newline Rd., East Seaham. “Participants” will assemble by 08:50am for a Service which will run from 09:00am until 09:30am.

The Raymond Terrace Main Service will be held at the War Memorial in ANZAC Park, Raymond Terrace, “Participants” will assemble by 10:50am for a Service which will run from 11:00am until 11:40am.

Refreshments will be available in the Raymond Terrace Bowling Club on completion of the Service, however numbers may be limited due to COVID-19 restrictions in place at the time.

In Karuah there will be a 5.45am March from the garage on the Old Pacific Highway to Memorial Park for 6am Dawn Service followed by a ticketed breakfast at the RSL Club.

Vic Jones, President Raymond Terrace RSL Sub-Branch told News Of The Area, “While Anzac Day services will be scaled back to some degree this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, ANZAC Day commemorations are iconic events in our national calendar and Port Stephens residents are encouraged to be involved in some form of commemoration on the day.

“Not every resident or visitor will have the opportunity to gather at one of the Services being held to honour our ANZACs, but I would still encourage them to take the time to remember our veterans by participating in the national Light Up the Dawn campaign which was so well-supported last year.

“By decorating your driveway, fence or letterbox, and coming to the end of your driveway with a light or candle before the dawn, you and your neighbours will also be ensuring that the spirit of the ANZAC’s is commemorated on this special day.

“We can all honour the ANZACS by observing a Service or participating in Light Up the Dawn again this year.

Remember, on ANZAC Day: Honour the Fallen, Cheer the Survivors, Care for the Wounded, Reach out to a Friend,” he said.
