This year was no exception, when 14-15 September saw the hustle and bustle of cowboys and cowgirls ascending on the township.

This years event saw a massive increase of competitors and visitors making it the best that has been held.

The Rodeo is a premier event included in the top Ten in Australia attracting over 800 competitors and 1000 entries.

Events include Bull Riding, Bronco Riding, Bulldogging, mini bulls, barrel racing and a full Campdraft programme.

This year Stroud held the NSW Championships which saw competitors from down south to far north QLD come to compete we also experienced record number of entries in both the Campdraft event and Rodeo.

The Stroud Rodeo had the opportunity to align with the WCRA (World Championship Rodeo Alliance), giving competitors in the open an opportunity to nominate to compete in the USA in their chosen event.

Annette Baldwin, Secretary of the Stroud Rodeo and Campdraft, told News Of The Area, “We had twenty athletes nominate and five qualified to go straight to semi-finals held in Guthrie Ok in November 2018.”

“Congratulations to Ben Lees, Emma Thompson, Heath Nichols, Jason Carlon and Travis Wheatley, because they now have the opportunity to compete for big prize money in their nominated events.”

This year saw an increase in prize money and buckles up for grabs for those competing and being successful on the weekend.

The event enables donations to various charities which have exceeded $500,000 since its inception – including HMRI, Stroud Lodge and other localised charities.

Annette said, “If it wasn’t for the local communities and support we get through donations and volunteers, we would not have an event where everyone works together in a very close group and supports each other.”

The committee members and volunteers are actively involved in not only organising the event but competing in both aspects of the weekend, from the president to some of the committee members children and grandchildren.

The Rodeo is a very successful family event which all member of the families become involved in.

Annette said, “As a member of the Rodeo and Campdraft committee, we pride ourselves in giving back to the community and this is one way of doing that.”

“Each year we pray that it doesn’t rain so that our event is a success and are relieved when this happens.”

“We would like to thank everyone from members, volunteers, sponsors, photographers and the public for coming – as without each and every one of you, our event would not be as successful as it was.”
