Funding was applied for under the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Program (Round 3).
Port Stephens Council applied for a grant of $7,723 to add to their current plans and budget for the revitalisation of park facilities at Longworth Park, Karuah.
Dr Gillespie met with acting General Manager Greg Kable to inspect the area set for the upgrade, and discuss the planned changes and improvements.
Dr Gillespie told News Of The Area, “I am pleased to be able to announced this grant to only further improve this beautiful parcel of land in Karuah.”
“I am excited to see the final results of the upgrade, and look forward to visiting again soon.”
Mr Kable confirmed with News Of The Area that this funding allocation through the Stronger Communities Program will be added to Council funds already allocated towards the upgrade of Longworth Park.
“We are excited to begin work on this beautiful park, and only further improve this community asset that already brings so much enjoyment to locals and tourists alike.”
Mr Kable can advise, on behalf of Port Stephens Council, that the works planned for Longworth Park at Karuah include $57,000 for an upgrade of park furniture, lighting and landscaping, and $130,000 to replace and upgrade the swimming enclosure seawall.
Mr Kable said, “The works will serve to improve the areas capability for hosting regular events, such as the Timber and Oyster Festival, as well as providing a facelift to the park facilities on a whole.”
