The crew of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter are angels in our times of greatest need.

Westpac Rescue Helicopter commenced in 1975 as a weekend beach patrol and through community support and fundraising has become the service it is today.

The Angel Billy Golf Day was started in 1997 by Ron Smith who passed away in 2015, The event has become a major fixture for Nelson Bay Golf Club.

The event has raised over $680,000 over the 22 years has had a good following averaging 160 players per year.

Rob Wiblow President of the local volunteers group for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter told News Of The Area, “We have over 150 prizes to give away on the day.

“Warren Moses in the Nelson Bay Golf Pro Shop does a magnificent job in putting the day together and getting the players on the course, of course we need many volunteers to assist in running the day, with many volunteers coming back year after year to help,” he said.

Harvey Norman Salamander Bay’s Toni & Dan Unthank have supported the Angel Billy since its inception in 1997 and are the events major sponsor this year.

Port Stephens Toyota came on board as a major sponsor in 2013 sponsoring 2 holes with a car as a hole in one prize, and multiple cars can be won on the day, there are no limits.

The Angel Billy Golf Day is one way that you can support this service that touches so many of our lives.

There are those walking among us everyday that without this service would not be here today.
