The judges presiding over the competition between the pair were .Geoff Dingle, Maddie Rosenthal and Richelle Surch, all of whom had a very challenging time determining the overall winner. Glenys Francis, Youth coordinator and chair for Raymond terrace Lions, told News Of The Area, “As usual it was a wonderful event with all members and their guests present enthused by the young contestants.’ ‘They way they responded to the impromptu questions, and also their prepared speeches was inspiring.” For their prepared speeches, the pair spoke on the topics of individuality and uniqueness. Johanne Montano was awarded the winner of the public speaking section of the evening, with Alyssa McDonald claiming the title Raymond Terrace Lions Club Youth Of The Year as the overall winner on the night. Both contestants are invited to attend the local Lions Youth Camp with other Youth of the Year contestants near Morisset. Glenys said “Lot of fun activities for all involved who attend the camp, learning some valuable skills along the way.” “These young people who participate in the Youth Of The Year will be our future leaders.” The winning contestants compete at Club: Zone: Region: District: State and at National level at Lions Multiple District Convention. This provides a wonderful opportunity for the students, confidence gained when traversing these levels is an invaluable experience. Glenys said, “Our Lions club is extremely proud to be a part of this fantastic Lions project and will continue to be involved for many more years to come.” Raymond Terrace Lions Club will host the Zone level of Youth Of The Year, to be held in February.
