ALL ONE Under the Sun is a 12-month youth arts project that will support young people from diverse backgrounds to build resilience to stand up against racism with music workshops starting on Saturday 6 June.

Using a platform of youth-led, arts-based messaging, community volunteer engagement activities and community events, the project intends to support both young people who experience racism and young people who are, or could become, allies.

A group of local organisations have come together to form a consortium to support the project: headspace Coffs Harbour, the Coffs Harbour Aboriginal Lands Council, Coffs Harbour Council, STARTTS, and Blue Sky Community Services.

The project seeks to engage young people from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Goori young people, young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds, as well as non-Aboriginal young people and those born in Australia.

The project consortium is inviting young people aged 15-24 to join the ‘All One Under the Sun, Make a Difference around Racism’ song writing workshops in June/July, that will focus on songwriting and music recording skills.

“This is a great opportunity for any existing or budding young musicians, not only to build on their skills, but also to witness the power of music to have a positive impact in our community,” Naomi Steinborner, Blue Sky Community Services told News Of The Area.

Workshop participants will collectively create an original song, working with music producers from Grow the Music.

The Grow the Music program has been working with communities, growing music leaders and supporting musicians.

Their mission is to impact positively on the holistic wellbeing (including cultural, social, artistic, emotional economic and political wellbeing) of Indigenous and migrant individuals, families and communities, through the medium of music.

Their goals are to enable communities to have access to ongoing quality music education, and to facilitate sustainable community music projects and spaces.

Grow the Music aims to promote Indigenous and migrant music to Australia and internationally, and support quality musical performances for all GTM beneficiaries.
