AFL North Coast’s best umpires have been recognised for their efforts.

UMPIRES are an integral part of sport.

Without them games and sporting contests simply wouldn’t happen.

AFL North Coast have recognised the vital role they play by recognising its best umpires of the 2021 season.

The umpire’s outstanding efforts throughout the year were celebrated during an online presentation.

Dave Young was awarded the Field Umpire of the Year, while Maraiyde Dougan was awarded the Boundary Umpire of the Year.

Other award winners included Violet Livingstone (Goal Umpire of the Year), Brendan Dixon (Best First Year Umpire), Andy Campfield (Most Improved Umpire), and Hudson Barry (Most Dedicated Umpire).

The major award winners of the North Coast Umpires Association were also recognised at the presentation night.

Matt Crawley was awarded the Senior Golden Whistle while the Junior Golden Whistle was shared by Hudson Barry and Andy Campfield.

AFL North Coast Community Football Manager Paul Taylor praised the performances of the top umpires during the 2021 season.

“It is great to see so many young umpires acknowledged, as well as those that were new to the role in 2021,” he said.

“Thanks go to all members of the umpiring fraternity for the commitment they show on a weekly basis to what can be a challenging, yet extremely rewarding role.”

Taylor described the benefits the vital role of an umpire entailed.

“If you love footy, you’ll love being an umpire, not only do you get the best view of the action, you also get paid for the privilege,” he said.

“Keep fit, be part of a team, and learn leadership skills for both on and off the field.”
