Port Stephens Council’s capital works program for 2016 – 2017, costed at over $28 million, is in full swing with a range of infrastructure works across the local government area with everything from drains, roadworks, community buildings and traffic lights on the list.

Deputy Mayor Cr Chris Doohan is particularly delighted with the number of projects planned for the Medowie area including the stage one development of the Medowie Sports Complex valued at over $3.2 million as well as important upgrade works at Abundance Road between Industrial and Lisadell Roads.

“It’s great to see Abundance Road in this year’s capital works program as many local residents have complained about it to me,” Cr Doohan told News Of The Area.

“The road has been requiring a new surface for quite some time, and we have been able to work with the council staff to see it moved up the priority list,” he said.

“This work, costed at over $700,000, is well into the planning stage and involves liaison with other agencies such as Hunter Water Corporation, Telstra and Ausgrid, as well as Councils engineering and logistic staff.”

“Detailed planning is required months in advance before the heavy machinery can roll out to do the work. It’s great to see and hear that this is now in full swing.”

“I’m looking forward to the work starting on the ground early next year,” the Deputy Mayor said.

The work will be undertaken on an 800m stretch of Abundance road and will include road widening and stabilisation, the extension of drainage culverts and driveway extensions and remediation.
