Lions Club members display the revamped bus shelter.

FOR over 150 years, Lions Clubs have assisted communities all over the world, including 75 years working in Australia.

The local Lions Club in Bulahdelah has been very proactive over the last few years, completing more than fourteen projects to benefit the local community.

Lions Club President Judy Dixon told News Of The Area described the group as “quiet achievers”.

“Our motto is we serve, we don’t say much about what we do, we just go ahead and do it.”

Their latest project has been the restoration of a bus stop just off the Bulahdelah main street.

Many tourist buses use this stop and it is the first impression of Bulahdelah for the travellers.

“We saw this bus shelter as the ugliest thing in Bulahdelah.

“It was all rundown and it’s not a nice thing if you’re coming as a tourist,” said Mrs Dixon.

With a fresh coat of paint, new tourist information and the surroundings being made more inviting, the shelter now shows off the town in its best light.

Lions Clubs also contribute to the wider community by funding initiatives such as medical research into childhood cancer, assistance dogs for the hearing impaired, diabetes awareness and youth programs just to name a few.

Recently they were able to assist farmers that needed bales of hay during the floods in rural areas with the provision of a free breakfast for weary truck drivers.

They have many up and coming projects in our local community, so watch this space.
