The 2.5 metre wide shared pathway has been made possible by a grant from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.
Mayor Ryan Palmer said, “It’s fantastic to see people already making good use of this new shared pathway — there’s walkers, runners, skaters and cyclists taking advantage of this new route which connects Raymond Terrace.
“Boomerang Park covers over 20 hectares and this pathway makes it easier to access more areas of this incredible regional park,” he said.
“Over the past few years, Port Stephens Council has invested in Boomerang Park to create a vibrant place that caters for everyone.”
“From the new playground and skate park to the men’s shed and senior citizen’s facilities —this shared pathway is now the final piece of the puzzle.”
“With this grant funding, we’ve been able to help more people get outside and enjoy all of the wonderful new facilities that Boomerang Park has to offer,” Mayor Palmer said.
Member of the Legislative Council, Taylor Martin MLC said the new shared paths at Boomerang Park were a great example of the type of projects that have been funded by the Stronger Country Communities Fund.
“In total, $2.2 million has been invested in Port Stephens from this fund to improve community facilities such as shared paths, playgrounds and sporting infrastructure,” Mr Martin said.
The works included a new shared pathway throughout Boomerang Park stretching over 750 metres, as well as lighting, entry signage, landscaping and bike racks.
