PLANS for a $4.9m redevelopment of Coffs Harbour International Marina have been lodged with Coffs Harbour City Council.

Coffs Harbour International Marina Pty Ltd is proposing to redevelop the marina at Marina Drive, Coffs Harbour.

The proposed redevelopment is planned to update the existing infrastructure within the marina to provide a modern and attractive facility that meets best practice in marina developments, and will improve safety, security and serviceability within the marina.

The site is owned by the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) on behalf of the Crown.

Key components of the redevelopment proposal include:

• Removal and redevelopment of the five existing marina arms and 159 berthing areas and provision of 140 new floating berths (reduced from the existing 159)
• Decommissioning and removal of existing pile moorings on the southern side of the marina
• Extraction of approximately 2,000 m³ of sand material and relocation onto the existing eastern harbour ‘beach area’ adjacent to Muttonbird Island or an alternative location agreed to by the DPIE
• Upgrade and provision of services to refurbished berths
• Widened and upgraded access path to amenities from the existing boardwalk
• Replacement of the existing roof to the commercial building
• Access to the marina via Marina Drive and the northern breakwall

The marina currently has an existing capacity of 159 berths capable of accommodating vessels between 10 and 20 metres.

A commercial building comprising cafe and restaurant facilities, specialty shops, amenities and laundry facilities lies to the west of the marina, connected by a timber boardwalk and concrete footpath.

The marina is the only deep water, all-weather port entrance between Port Stephens and Brisbane.

The site is leased by Coffs Harbour International Marina Pty Ltd from the landowner NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment.

The proposed redevelopment is anticipated to require around fifteen staff throughout the construction phase, and works are expected to take approximately four to six months to complete.
