37 Years of Triathlon and Thriving

37 YEARS ago Mick Maley saw an ad to give a triathlon a go and hasn’t looked back since.

Mick and Wendy Maley have been stalwarts at the Coffs Harbour Triathlon Club for over three decades and have devoted an immeasurable amount of time over the years assisting the Club to where it is today.

Club President Shaun Lawer told News Of The Area the Club is built on the support of its members.

“The success of any sporting club is built on the passion and sacrifices made by its many members.

“The Maleys’ time with the club started back in the summer of 1984-85, wanting to keep up his love of running and team sports, Mick saw an ad to give a triathlon a go.

“Just the tonic he needed, and in a few short years later, Wendy was on the start line with him, the Maleys have been an integral part of the club since.

“To this day Wendy still participates and Mick still lends a hand and assists with the BBQ.

“Sit with Mick for any amount of time and he thrives on telling the stories that have transpired over the years, the characters that have graced the Club, and the many end of season trips.

“The Club of today can thank the members like the Maleys and all the past members from back in the day for creating a club that thrives on supporting each other and encouraging everyone to have a go,” said Shaun.

The first of the 14 club races takes place on 26 September followed by a BBQ to start the season and welcome new members, more information can be found at www.coffstri.com.au.
