He gave a brief history of the club which was men only until a few years ago and now boasts over 140 members with an equal gender ratio. Ann Gibson of the Port Stephens Probus Club told News Of The Area, “Those that were with the club at the beginning have seen many changes over the years.” The following morning members fronted up to the monthly meeting where a very surprised and delighted Ron Gibson was awarded Life Membership. His Wife and Probus Club of Port Stephens President Ann Gibson was a bit teary, and had the pleasure of presenting the Medal and Certificate to her husband. Ron was nominated by Leon Lindsay and seconded by John Townsend and voted in by members present after a plan was hatched to get Ron out of the room. Ron has been a member for 16 years and served on committee for most of that time as Treasurer, BBQ Director, Vice President Administration, President and currently Immediate Past President and Newsletter Editor.
