The show ended with a spectacular bang as colourful fireworks lit the sky. This year, Glen Dorney was awarded life membership to the Bulahdelah Show Society. Secretary Bernadette Newton said this honour was given to recognise Glen’s contribution to the show over many years. “Glen originally worked aside his late father Royce with the organisation of the camp draft competition,” she said. “Royce was also a life member and we wanted to acknowledge Glen for his hard work in ensuring this major part of the show continued.” Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie officially opened the event and said Agricultural Shows are an important part of country life. “They showcase country Australia by showing the production that goes into the Agricultural Industry,” he said. “They are especially important for teaching children where their food comes from by showcasing the process from paddock to plate.” With plenty to see and do, kids got hands-on in the animal farm and snakes, hermit crabs and teddy bears were paraded in the Pet Show. Organisers were also pleased with the large crowds that gathered for the popular Rodeo and Demolition Derby events. Show Society President Gary Gooch told News Of The Area it was a successful weekend with many highlights. “We’ve been favoured by good weather, we couldn’t have asked for anything better,” he said. “It’s been a year of many firsts, we’ve had a live radio broadcast, mower Mulisha and a Ferris Wheel in Sideshow Alley.” Mr Gooch said the Ferris Wheel at the show was used in the film ‘Tomorrow, When the War Began.’ Another highlight was the fierce bidding in the ‘Men’s Chocolate Cake Auction’ which raised over $1900 for Bulahdelah Hospital Auxiliary. Almost 700 cattle, thousands of pavilion and competition entries and 150 volunteers ensured this year’s show was an absolute cracker.
