Bulahdelah Soccer Club and Visitor Centre benefit from Volunteer Grants Program Bulahdelah, Wootton, Nerong FEATURED by NOTA - June 8, 2016 Two local volunteer organisations will share almost $6000 in funding made available through the Federal Government’s Volunteer Grants Program. Phillip Miles, Bulahdelah Soccer Club President Sandra Hourn, Club Secretary Joanne Miles, Dr David Gillespie MP and soccer club members Elise and Aiden Miles. Bulahdelah Soccer Club received $4450 to go towards the purchase of new equipment including a PA system, outdoor furniture, computer and bar-b-que. Club secretary Joanne Miles said it was “fantastic” to receive the grant which will greatly assist the many volunteers who contribute to running the club. “We definitely need it, we haven’t had any big funding for a few years,” Mrs Miles said. “It’s important that we have the money to keep the club going for the community, it’s is a great social avenue for the kids and helps them keep active.” Mrs Miles also said the purchase of the bar-b-que would bring more money into the club through fundraising efforts of their volunteers. Dr David Gillespie MP presents Bulahdelah Visitor Centre Volunteer Pat Tate, Chamber of Commerce and Tourism President John Sahyoun and VIC Volunteer Kevin Carter with the Volunteers Grant. Bulahdelah Visitor Information Centre (VIC) received $1250 for a new computer system. VIC Volunteer Kevin Carter said the new equipment will improve facilities and services for the volunteer staff. “We have a record number of visitors coming through and at present we are using an old Council-loaned computer that needs replacing,” Mr Carter said. “We appreciate the grant and I am confident the upgrade will allow our volunteers to deliver their services more efficiently.” Mr Carter said the grant was applied for through the Bulahdelah Chamber of Commerce and Tourism of which the VIC is a part of. Making the presentations last weekend, Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie said volunteers are well-recognised by the State and Federal Governments. Dr Gillespie visited the area with his wife Charlotte, and said the stormy weather didn’t dampen their spirits. “It’s wet and cold, but good weather ducks and campaigning,” Dr Gillespie told News Of The Area.
