Planning to meet this week, Great Lakes Council’s Development Control Unit will look to make a decision relating to the construction of the Digital TV Transmission Tower in Bulahdelah.

A report prepared by Council in relation to the Development Application (DA) for the tower will be presented at the meeting on Thursday 12 May with a recommendation for approval.

The proposed 30 metre tower to accommodate the required antennas is to be located on the MidCoast Water Reservoir site at the foot of Alum Mountain.
This will allow the site to receive TV signals from Cabbage Tree Mountain and Mount Sugarloaf and retransmit them into the Bulahdelah community to enable free-to-air digital television.

The application was notified for public comment and as a result one submission was received.
The submission outlined concerns relating to the disruption of views of the mountain and the inability of the signal to cover the entire town from the intended site.

In response, the Council report states the tower is considered to be highly transparent providing a minimum visual structure.

It was also noted there was no suitable alternate location for the tower due to the lower elevation of other sites.

With all aspects of the DA considered, the report recommends “that Development Application No. 378/2016 for the installation of a Digital TV transmission tower on Lot 200 DP 1158752, 14-16 Bulahdelah Way, Bulahdelah be approved.”
