The Myall Coast News Of The Area and Great Lakes Advocate have conducted separate Polls on the merger proposed for Great Lakes, Greater Taree and Gloucester Councils.

Many people showed their opinion by voting in these polls. 336 voted on the Myall Coast News Of The Area poll and 264 voted on the Advocates Poll.

Myall Coast News Of The Area: Poll (336 votes) 165 (49.2%) say YES to merge.
171 (50.8%) said NO to Merge. Very much each way with our Poll.

Great Lakes Advocate: Poll (264 votes) a massive 240 for them (91%) said NO to merge.
18 votes said YES to Merge. A huge swing to NO.

Great Lakes Council has made its submission on the three-way merger proposal of Gloucester Shire, Great Lakes and Greater Taree City Councils to the NSW Government’s delegate, Dr Ian Tiley.

The NSW Government appointed Dr Tiley to investigate the Minister’s proposed three-way merger and hold a public consultation which finished at 5pm on Friday 15 April 2016.

“Our submission has been placed on Council’s website so that residents can access it and be aware of the information we have used to form our position on the merger,” said Council’s General Manager, Mr Glenn Handford.

As part of its submission, Council engaged consultants Morrison Low to undertake an analysis to identify the costs and benefits associated with the merger proposal.

Morrison Low’s Report is included in Council’s submission.
