Meet Amanda Albury who, with other volunteers, has been instrumental in keeping Twelve Mile Creek and Limeburners Creek clean for the last 11 years as part of the Clean Up Australia annual campaign.

Where’s Limeburners Creek and Twelve Mile Creek? It’s a tiny but beautiful part of Australia located in the south-western corner of Great Lakes Council’s area (think south of Booral and west of Karuah).

This year’s Australia-wide clean-up was scheduled for March, but due to an accident Amanda had on her property, she was unable to undertake this year’s clean up.

Amanda doesn’t give up easily though and the good news is that she’s back on track and has now participated in her 11th annual Australia Day Clean-up in Limeburners Creek.

After an approach to the Clean-up Australia Day organisers, Amanda was given the all-clear to hold a special clean up event for last weekend – from 8am until 2pm on both Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 April.

“People who can only spare a couple of hours are still welcome to come along and help for whatever time they can.  And we have some areas that are away from roads for a safer experience for children who wish to participate with their parents,” said Amanda.

“Last year we had a child from Booral School with her mum and Grandmother, which was great to see.”

Council scheduled a special pick up at three locations of the rubbish Amanda and her helpers collect on the weekend.

The area to be covered is from the corner of the Pacific Highway along the Bucketts Way, including Limeburners Creek Road to north of Forest Glenn Road.

“The more people that volunteer and come along to help, the further we cover,” said Amanda.
