In a recent article, News Of The Area wrote of Kye Richards, a 4-year old Pindimar boy who suffers from an incurable genetic disease, the biggest childhood genetic killer in the world, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Since this article was published, both the Lions and the Lioness Clubs have reached out to assist Kye Richards and his family, to see what they could do, working together to assist the family.

“We have been out to see Louise and her family on two occasions,” Ron Conaghan of the Tea Gardens Lions Club told the News Of The Area reporter Rebekka Cunningham.

“Both ourselves and the Lioness Club are working on a plan to keep assisting her and the family.”

“So far we have been able to assist them with some finances which will allow them to attend a very important seminar in June.”

“This money will cover accommodation, petrol and of course the seminar.”

Louise Richards said, “The Lions and Lioness Club have helped by funding a trip for me to a neuromuscular conference in Sydney.”

“This is very important to us because it’s where the latest breakthroughs and care options will be discussed by doctors from around the world,” said Ms Richards.

“They are also helping us with accommodation for Kye’s many trips to the children’s hospital and later will help with a wheelchair or mobility scooter for Kye when he needs it,” she said.

“We have also been put in touch with the local men’s shed who have offered any assistance with building ramps, putting up shower rails, which is a massive help to our family especially little Kye.”

Mr Conaghan said they will do everything they can to assist Louise and her family.

“She’s one of us, one of the local community and that’s what we are here for,” Mr Conaghan said.

“This is not just a one-off. We will keep in touch and this will be something we hope to be able to assist with on an ongoing basis,” he said.
