Letter to the Editor: Left speechless by Jetty Foreshores plan

DEAR News Of The Area,

FOR once I am left speechless, Ann Leonard’s letter says it all!

Gurmesh Singh needs to pay less attention to Sydney politicians i.e. Steve Kamper, who fly up to Coffs Harbour for the day, and are arrogant enough to think they can make a decision which will affect us for the rest of our lives!

Instead, listen to us!

We pay the rates, we pay the taxes, we pay your salaries, and we are the decision makers.

Not you!

We live here because we value the natural beauty of the Coffs Coast, and for those of you who prefer overdevelopment, destruction of the natural environment, ugly high rises throwing a shadow over our beautiful beaches, then go back to Sydney or move to the Gold Coast!

Coffs Harbour locals appreciate how lucky we are, and we intend to protect our lifestyle at all costs!

Greedy developers who are eyeing the vacant beachfront land, forget it, not every inch of land is waiting for you to dig up, cement over, and restrict access to the rest of us.

There is a very good reason why regular visitors and tourists envy our lifestyle and keep coming back!

Regards,
Z. KOENIGSEDER,
Coffs Coast.

  1. Dear Editor, I would like this letter published on the Coffs Harbour City Council’s grant for State Government funding to repair the Coffs Harbour timber Jetty. As many of the Johnny Come Lately Greens and Teales wouldn’t know Coffs Harbour was founded on the timber industry and the heritage-listed Jetty in our harbour built in 1892 is testament to our region’s contribution to building Australia through sustainable timber production. Unfortunately, our council now has a misrepresentation of Greens councillors given the poor structure adopted in local government elections across NSW.
Councillors should be independent not party aligned.
Anyway, these Greens councillors voted a couple of years ago to not support our native forest industry which is a massive employer in Coffs Harbour and the Mid North Coast. Always has been always will be. So to repair the Jetty which will cost $22million the council has been denied any State Government funds. No wonder why! You cant build a Jetty from Indonesian timber from Bunnings, Had the council been diplomatic in its positioning and not a Greens loving anti-development chorus the State Government and our own Forestry industry and sawmills could have rebuilt the Jetty with timber from our sustainably harvested Coffs Coast forests. Now the city may watch on as this important landmark crumbles in coming years. All thanks to the Greens. The State Government also won’t cooperate with our council over the Jetty Foreshores. No wonder why given the mess that became of the Coffs Harbour boat ramp. How do you blow $1.1 million in State Government money just look at that project. Well done council. If you are still in doubt then just look at the viewing deck built by council what 5 years ago at Diggers Beach? It is now just concrete piers with no deck. Another great Coffs Council project. So when it comes to the Jetty and the Foreshores how about the State Government takes the lead because this council proved it cannot manage projects. The community didn’t want the Emerald Castle you built yet the Greens councillors pushed it through. Totally unacceptable. Stick to rubbish, rates and roads and stay out of planning and development. The Greens have held this community to ransom. Question Why would the Greens councillors want the Coffs Harbour ramp to fail? because they want a no take fishing marine park off the Coffs Coast?
