DIVERS will return to the Myall River sea bed next week for another cleanup of what lies beneath.

Last year, the divers came up with an amazing range of rubbish from old car tyres to enough bottles to fill a pub.

But the first ever such clean up of the river was marred by very poor visibility and overcast skies.

“It is hoped that conditions will be greatly improved this time around,” Co-Ordinator Gordon Grainger said.

As well as diving in the waters off Marine Drive in Tea Gardens, the clean up has been extended to the area along Moira Parade at Hawks Nest and the Gut.

Cost of the clean up is almost $3,000.

Gordon Grainger told News Of The Area, “Council have indicated they will support the project with $1000, plus the services of several personnel.”

“ They have also agreed to waive tip costs.”

Gordon added, “ We have also been offered accommodation from the Tea Gardens Hotel and provision of the complimentary BBQ for volunteers from Sheargold.”

“Anyone wishing to volunteer their services is most welcome.”

“We would appreciate hearing from any of you who can assist both financially or personally,” Gordon said.

The date for the clean up is Wednesday 21 February.

An early start is envisaged, but keep in mind all the volunteers will be rewarded with a great barbecue and a much cleaner river.

There might even be the odd treasure or two.
