Format of play, while one bowler contests a Singles game the remainder of the team play Triples, next a Pairs contest and finally a game of Fours. The winners Dorothy Thompson, Bette Saillard, Lynda Richards and Kayelene Pearson managed wins in all 5 of their games. Jan Coomer, Jean Glover, Karen McPhie and Karen Green had 4 wins gaining 2nd place and Julie Kennedy, Bev Rhodes, Christine Fossey and Lynne Green gained 3rd position with 2 wins. A great day of bowling enjoyed by all. Following lunch club President Robyn Webster thanked and presented a gift to our previous sponsor Shayne Reynolds (Pelican Pest Control) for his company’s sponsorship for many years. Then all members joined in to wish Sheril Johnson a happy “0” birthday. Thursday 1st November: Round 1 of the Novice Consistency Competition. This competition is open to those who have bowled less than 5 years and who have never won a major competition. The winner is the first bowler to reach 150 points. It’s wonderful seeing our new bowlers “having a go” at this type of event. On Rink 8 Bev Dunn v Francis Betar. This contest lasted 26 ends despite some good bowling by Bev she lost to Bette Saillard a slightly more “seasoned” opponent. The score 151 v 119. Judi Polak and Francis Betar battled it out on Rink 9. The hot weather (plus Francis’s bowling) proved to be too strong for Judi, who conceded on the 18th end. The score at this stage was Judi 73 v Francis 107. Thanks to the Markers and Umpire Karen McPhie. Round 2 to be played on Thursday 8th November. Social bowls was played as well, the usual 12 ends for $5 day. Judy McGavock and Lynne Green had a close game against Bev Rhodes and Liz Kelly. The winners were Judy and Lynne 11 v Bev and Liz 8. A good win for Carol Hayden (played half a game), Dorothy Thompson and Lynda Richards 19 v Dot Dallas and Dale Cameron 6. Coming events: November 8th Round 2 Novice Consistency also social bowls. The 9th November Kayelene Pearson and Robyn Beaumont (our Newcastle District Representative Bowlers) head to Soldiers Point to compete in the annual Rosebowl Trophy Day.
