All monies donated this week will stay in Raymond Terrace to help local families. Officer in charge of Raymond Terrace Salvation Army Tracey Isles, confirmed some local statistics and programs. Every week the Salvos in our area give away 600 coffees, and 350 meals are also provided to those in need each week. This equates to around $20,000 each year. But the Salvos do more, there are 6-10 showers for the homeless who are also provided with food each day. 8-10 food hampers provided to families in need every day. Not to mention the 10 loads of washing which are done each week. The Salvos provide programs which address; grief and Loss, adult literacy, drug recovery, free Legal Aid, and emergency services assistance. They also run the Kids in the Park feeding program, a Community Choir, the Women’s Worth Group, Youth Drop In Centre and a Transitional House for women for drug and alcohol recovery. Lue Fagan of Irrawang High School told News Of The Area, “As always students and staff from Irrawang High School, got right behind the Raymond Terrace Red Shield Appeal, with student volunteers collecting every recess and lunch this week. “Lots of coins but a fantastic amount of folding money has been collected so far. “Wednesday was red day with everyone encouraged to wear a red item of clothing or accessory for a gold coin donation,” she said.
