Tea Gardens RSL Members Mr Ted Mowbray, Mrs Jenny Ross and Mr Ray Prigg, Principal Mr Mark Clemson and Assistant Principal Mr Ross Weightman with the Rattlesnakes at the Commemorative Assembly. At Tea Gardens Primary School, Principal Mr Mark Clemson welcomed RSL Members Mrs Jenny Ross, Mr Ted Mowbray and Mr Ray Prigg who shared their personal service experiences with the students. Mrs Ross spoke about the way soldiers were disciplined, whilst Mr Prigg described his experiences as a truck driver during the Vietnam War. Mr Mowbray shared a piece of his personal history by showing his father’s tin hat before speaking about the famous Spitfire Aeroplane. Many students were involved in the ceremony with Year 3 Rattlesnakes presenting the story of Manfred von Rochthofen, known as the Red Baron. At Bulahdelah Central School, Principal Mr Don Hudson welcomed RSL Members Mr Peter Millen and Mr Steve Newman before reflecting on the significance of ANZAC. “Today we recognise the men and women who have served our country, who have given so much to make sure our way of life continues,” Mr Hudson said. “It’s important to take the time to celebrate the successes we have had, but also recognise the loss of lives.” Want your business advertised online with Myall Coast News? Email us today ads@mcnota.com.au Senior students described the experiences of Australian Soldiers whilst Tim Smith recited Homecoming by Bruce Dawes, highlighting the human cost of conflict. Guest speaker Mr Kevin Carter spoke about bravery and his father Lance Corporal Harry Carter. “Being the son of a soldier who served means a lot to me and I proudly march on ANZAC Day, every single one of them,” he said. “My Dad represents what it’s all about and we need to be thankful that we are safe, because people before us have given us this opportunity.” Booral Public School Ceremony was attend by RSL members, RAAF Officers and community. Students shared their reflections on ANZAC before Wing Commander Alistair Third made a presentation on behalf of Karuah RSL. Presentations were also made by Dungog RSL, former student Mr Owen Rowney and community members. The commemorative address was given by Royal Australian Air Force Squadron Leader Richard Rundle. Wreaths and floral tributes were laid by students at each of the schools before the sounding of The Last Post and Reveille. Karuah Public School’s Commemorative ANZAC Service and St Joseph’s Primary School’s ANZAC Liturgy and Children’s Mass will be held next week.
