Guest speaker Dr Lana Staudt, whose fellowship is funded by an Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation (ALCCRF) grant, spoke passionately about research work currently being undertaken at the University of Newcastle.

This research is directed at the aggressive Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) brain cancer that accounts for over 20 percent of all childhood cancer cases.

Lion Annette Clarke told News Of The Area, “An event such as this one is not possible without the help, support, and donations from across the Raymond Terrace community.

“Thanks must go to the St John’s Anglican Church for allowing 100 very noisy patrons to gather in friendship and support of this worthwhile cause.

“The home cooked catering outdid last year, with our very own Yvonne Skeffington being crowned the ‘Cream Queen’.

“Thanks must also go to all the organisations that donated to the raffle: Terrace Street Jewellers for the beautiful necklace, Marketplace Management, Beautification, Mavericks On The Bay restaurant, Raymond Terrace Men’s Shed, Capital Chemist, Alyssa’s Hair Boutique, TerryWhite Chemmart, Nextra Newsagency, Lakeside Newsagency and Judy and John Mulhearn.”

The event was also supported by the army of Raymond Terrace Lions Club members who cooked, cleaned, crocheted and worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the project.

“Our heartfelt thanks to the 100 patrons that attended and made this day so enjoyable.

“We will be back next year,” Annette said.
