LOVEY’s Grocers IGA Hawks Nest has won three gongs at the National IGA awards of excellence on the Gold Coast.

The Small Fresh Award, Small Grocery and Perishables, and the coveted National Small ‘Xpress’ Store of the Year for 2023 were all taken out by Lovey’s at the awards on July 17.

“It’s nice to get recognised, the locals support us all year round,” said store manager Lydal Blaber.

“The owners, Peter and Ros Trapple are good bosses and do the right thing by us, too,” she said.

This is not the first set of awards for which the Hawks Nest IGA supermarket has been nominated, with several nominations in the past few years.

A rather rigorous process must be satisfied at state level before they can get near the national level.

“We have to meet several criteria, including customer service, hygiene, presentation, and we get several rounds of ‘mystery-shoppers’ come through,” Ms Blaber said.

Once they bested the NSW and the ACT preliminaries, Lovey’s IGA went on to the nationals.

No doubt recent renovations helped out with the win.

“Thank you to our hardworking team and wonderful customers who support us every day,” said Colleen Ross, Lyndal’s second in command.

“Many IGAs are being renovated all around the country, but hopefully we will be in with a good chance next year, too,” Ms Blaber said, noting the need to keep things fresh, in many more ways than just one.
