“While the tender for construction is now closed we have not heard anything of who won the tender and when work on the construction may begin,” Patricia Garrard from the Winda Woppa Association said.
“The MidCoast Councillors are yet to endorse both the Tender and the expenditure of funds to enable the ultimate construction of the Sand Transfer System.”
“A presentation will be made at their meeting on February 28 February together with the proposal to accept the preferred tenderer.”
“Council has also reiterated that they expect to gain access to the sand stock on the end of Winda Woppa about end March, by which time the Little Tern hatchlings are expected to have left.”
The Aboriginal Land Council of the Worimi people has agreed to the transfer of sand from Jacabba to Jimmy’s Beach should another major weather event.
In the wake of last month’s big storms, Council trucked sand on to Jimmy’s but there’s but no further action since January 25.
