This Art Show is unlike any other we have had in Port Stephens and will be a major fundraiser for a new youth counselling service that will be launched in February 2019.

Caring for Our Port Stephens Youth (COPSY) Inc., in conjunction with Salamander Bay Rotary, invites you to an Event at Chez Basser, 2/213 Soldiers Point Road, Salamander Bay.

This Event will feature wonderful works of art by distinguished local, Newcastle and Sydney artists.

Your $10 will cover entry into this special event and light refreshments – tickets are available at the door.

COPSY’s first major milestone was the completion of the needs’ analysis report in December 2016, which was funded by the local Primary Health Network and the Port Stephens Council.

The report was discussed in public meetings and smaller steering group meetings.

These led to making the establishment of a local service a priority.

The second milestone was finding a site for this service, with the group overcoming that hurdle and securing rooms in the Tomaree Community Library complex at Salamander Bay, in a great location between the two local high schools.

Port Stephens Council has been very supportive with rental assistance.

COPSY have discussed their plans for the two rooms with the youth representatives from the local high schools who are excited to see the plans coming to fruition.

The third milestone was obtaining a major grant in 2018 from the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation to equip and refurbish the two rooms.

The fitting-out will take place before the end of this month.

Recently, COPSY we obtained another major grant from the NSW Government, which will enable them to start on their main priority: improved awareness of mental health issues.

The funds will be used to run workshops customised for each school.

The group will not duplicate what is already being done in schools, and will work with existing groups to deliver the workshops.

Finally, COPSY have managed to put together a small team of psychologists and social workers who are all keen to be involved in this ground-breaking project.

The service will be launched formally in February 2019.

COPSY now have a Facebook page , and are excited to launch a new Instagram page and new COPSY website expected very soon.

The only thing missing is you, and COPSY would love you to join them on 16 November.
