Nelson Bay has landed two grants one for the upgrade of Apex Park and another for the street scaping of the township seeing an overall investment of $440,000 coming into the township.
Council has also applied for grants for Raymond Terrace for a $27 million dollar upgrade of William Street which if successful will see the street levelled and the streetscape improved.
Mayor Ryan Palmer told News Of The Area, “Anna Bay and the South Tomaree Community Group has an upcoming meeting and the opportunity to review and upgrade the 2008 strategy, working with Sarah Smith and the Central Ward Councillors to identify areas which can be addressed.”
He believes this could unlock grant opportunities.
In Medowie there are expressions of interest open for blocks of land in the CBD where council is looking to do a similar development as they have in Salamander Bay’s main shopping precinct.
“This development would provide for much needed facilities in the Medowie CBD area,” he said.
Karuah is certainly a destination and council is as a priority looking for funds to upgrade the main street there as well.
Raymond Terrace has also received a grant for the first Big Belly Bin in Australia, the bin is a solar powered, WiFi enabled unit which rewards positive litter practices while compacting waste and it will even let Council know when it is full.
