“The atmosphere in the room was electric for most of the evening with great interaction,” Alan Freedman, Youth/International Director, Sawtell Rotary, told News Of The Area.

The questions were MC-ed by Jordan Oppy of Oppy Entertainment.

With focused minds, and answers on the tip of the tongue, there were fun moments with some of the responses.

“One answer to a question regarding a large open sea, received the response of capsicum instead of Caspian, which created a big laugh when Jordan would not say who the culprit was.”

All local schools attended, some with two or three tables.

“There were previous attendees who I contacted from earlier years, also people booked after seeing my posters in Sawtell and of course NOTA’s article prior to the event.

“We had great support from sponsors: Highgrove Bathrooms – the winning school received the Highgrove Bathrooms Cup, Sawtell RSL, Majestic Theatre Sawtell, Blooms The Chemist Toormina, Woolworths Toormina, Sawtell Rotary and Beta Electrics.”

The funds go in part to the Sawtell Rotary Literacy Program which donates around $500 worth of books to each local primary school every year.

Funding of $1,000 goes to support a student to attend the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra.

Two students will be funded to attend the Santos Science Experience in Armidale at $200 each.

Sawtell Rotary also recently assisted a student to go to London for a Science Experience.

Sawtell Rotary’s Ray Baldwin and Alan Freedman will spend a day at the Coffs Harbour Christian Community School assisting judging of its Public Speaking Competition on Tuesday 13 September.
