THE hardworking clubs, groups and organisations of Bulahdelah will be showcased in an upcoming Community Expo.

On 3 September, an event will be held at Wade Park in Bulahdelah to celebrate and showcase the town’s groups, clubs, committees, social and service organisations.

Nicky Hammerl, one of the organisers of the Expo, told News Of The Area the showcase will show what the town has to offer people in terms of groups to join, to volunteer with, or where to turn for help.

“We are a community-based town and want all to see where they could find friendship, fulfilment, fitness, and fun.

“Community groups rely on volunteers to get the bulk of the work done and the more people helping, the lighter the load and the more people who can be blessed with the rewards of volunteering and or joining with like-minded people,” Nicky said.

“We all need new people in our groups with new ideas and enthusiasm and we want them to know they are welcome to come join us.”

Attendees can expect to see and hear what groups have to offer with some hands-on activities to join in.

The Bulahdelah Country Women’s Association will be providing their famous Devonshire teas and the Lions Club are firing up the BBQ.

The Rural Fire Service will be bringing their trucks for all to explore, whilst the Scouts will be teaching knots, Yogis will be giving demonstrations, the soccer club will be running some drills and there will be a Tennis Coach Uppie Competition.

“There will be local churches, Meals on Wheels, Show Society, RSL Auxiliary and Legacy, Chamber of Commerce, Historical Society, Men’s Shed, Information Centre, Gardening Club, Outreach Group, Pre-School and A-10 Shun.

“Other groups who couldn’t attend are providing flyers with information on their groups,” Nicky says.

As a Scout Leader at 1st Bulahdelah Scout Group, Nicky understands the importance of community groups for the young and old alike.

“They connect people and give platforms for people to learn, grow and find fulfilment,” she said.

Nicky says her Scout Group is about to lose leaders, and without these leaders, faces closure.

“Someone gave me this idea for finding new leaders, and I know all other groups, clubs and organisations need new blood from time to time so I thought if we could all come together and showcase what we have to offer it would no doubt benefit all,” she said.

“That’s what it’s all about- working as a team, a collective.”

The event will take place on Saturday 3 September from 10:00am – 2:00pm at Wade Park in Bulahdelah.

From 10:30am, there will be an acknowledgment and welcome, followed by an address of the importance of community spirit and a snapshot of what each group, club or society does.

In the instance of wet weather, the Expo will be held in the School of Arts Hall.
