‘CHANGING Directions’, an exhibition of works from Nambucca artist Lorraine Francis, is on display at the Stringer Gallery, Nambucca Heads from Tuesday 31 May to Saturday 2 July.

Lorraine will present a vibrant display of two-dimensional works on canvas and board, depicting a variety of subjects.

Featuring abstracts, landscapes, fauna and collage; ‘Changing Directions’ will showcase a new direction in her art practice.

“Recently, Lorraine has immersed herself in the manipulation of collage in her acrylic paintings,” said Peta Coe, Nambucca Valley Arts Council (NVAC).

Preferring to work in acrylics, Lorraine attests that she loves the medium for the vivid colours and fast drying characteristics, which are a hallmark of this type of paint.

It has enabled her to work quickly without anticipating the final result.

Such unrestrained freedom of expression is apparent in the spontaneity and wonderful freshness of her work.

“It is quite remarkable to think that Lorraine has really only been painting for about fifteen years, when one sees how accomplished her work is,” Peta said.

“However, as she has always been a successful creative in a variety of other ways: acting, singing in choirs and as a soloist, training children’s choirs and escorting them around the world, developing choreography, etc., we should not be surprised by her latest achievements,” Peta said,

Lorraine approaches her painting with much energy and drive, working virtually every day in her studio at Nambucca and always has works on display at the Stringer Gallery.

Her works are often to be discovered at the Nexus Gallery in Bellingen as well, where she has been a long-time member.

“She has delightful variety and diversity in her creative practice and has investigated all painting genres.

“Collage though is what has particularly inspired her of late,” Peta said.

When asked about what drives her, Lorraine was quick to respond, “The thing is, when you have to paint, you have to paint, you need to paint!”

A multi-award winning and prolific artist, Lorraine’s beautifully resolved works are bound to inspire.

Concurrently, another featured exhibition is also soon to be installed at the Stringer Gallery.

It is a members’ show entitled ‘Abstraction’.

“It is always exciting to see what our artists have been working on.

“This exhibition will no doubt complement Lorraine’s exhibition well.

“Prepare to be surprised!” Peta said.
